Shelter Music Boston
Program Description
Shelter Music Boston received its first major grant award from The Ilene Beal Charitable Foundation in 2017. This grant of $250,000 over five years supports two significant initiatives. SMB will continue its ongoing program of transformative concerts at The Dimock Center’s women’s recovery programs and has renamed this concert series The Ilene Beal Concerts for Women. The grant will also partially support the launch of a pilot to bring our music program to children and families affected by homelessness.
The Shelter Music Boston Children and Family Shelter Program pilot was developed in collaboration with Boston Philharmonic (BPO) and pairs SMB’s expertise in concert delivery to those who are currently homeless with the BPO’s established music education programs for school children.
